Yours Truly on their latest singles, touring internationally, and future plans

Coming out of Sydney, Australia - with an average age of just 21 - pop punk band Yours Truly has been proving that the genre is still alive and well. Their anthemic songs are full of honesty and vulnerability, giving fans a much-needed soundtrack to what many are going through.

The band kicked off the year with catchy break up track, "Composure," following it up with a beautifully artistic music video. The song was the first release since the Afterglow EP in 2019. Without skipping a beat, they released another single titled "Together," which touched upon their experiences with imposter system and the internal feeling of having to prove yourself.

Both releases have left a big impression on new and returning fans alike. If this artist is not on your daily Spotify rotation, you may want to add them to your favorite playlists!

Now,Yours Truly is gearing up to release their debut album, Self Care. In anticipation, we spoke with the band regarding these releases and their experiences being apart of pop punk scenes around the world. Check out what they have to say in the Q&A below!

The music video for “Composure” is incredible. What was it like bringing this song to life?

Bringing Composure to life was fun and challenging at the same time. We only had a short time to get the video done before the world went into lockdown. We’re super happy with how it turned out. Our main thing was having the embroidery/stitch work in the video. It felt nice to be creative and film a music video again!

What message do you hope listeners take away from your latest single, “Together”?

I hope people take away that feeling out of your depth is normal! To use your anxieties to your advantage and not be so hard on yourself. Easier said than done, but it's something that I learnt whilst writing this album.

What can you tell us about your upcoming album, Self Care?

Self Care is an album about growing up and navigating your life through all the ups and downs. It's got 10 songs which show you all the sides of Yours Truly. Fun fact: It is released exactly one week after Teddie’s birthday

2019 seems like it was quite the crazy year for you guys. What were some of your favorite moments playing shows and festivals?

Download UK 2019 was our first ever international performance so that holds a special spot for us! We also got to tour the US with Senses Fail and Hot Mulligan which was a huge adventure. So long but rewarding! Coming home and playing Good Things Festival made the year for sure.

How has touring internationally compared to playing shows in Australia? Do you see differences in the music scenes as you travel?

Driving between shows internationally is a lot quicker, and our eating options are different and new, which is exciting for us. It varies between city and country but the people we meet are always very lovely and welcoming.

Do you have a favorite song to play live?

High Hopes is always fun! We usually play it last so we give it our everything. Its cool to see people sing along and have fun!

It's pretty incredible you guys have been able to see so much success from such a young age. Do you have any advice for young fans of Yours Truly working on building their own careers?

My advice would be to give it your all! If playing music and being in a band is a passion you truly believe in, give it everything you got. Make sure you have fun while doing it whether it’s with your band or the friends you make along the way!

What are some of the biggest challenges you have had to face as a band?

Being young brings its challenges! You don’t have a lot of money and freedom. We’re really lucky to have such supportive families, but you have something extra to prove when touring with bands a lot older than you. Also, coming from a country that is so far away from the rest of the world makes touring expensive and a big deal.

What’s next for Yours Truly? Do you have any bucket list plans you’re working towards?

Next up we’re doing a small acoustic show to celebrate the launch of Self Care

We’re slowly working towards hopefully one day doing a headline world tour. That's on the top of the bucket list for sure!

If your band had a theme song, what would it be?
