Live music might be on hold, but many artists are still taking advantage of this time to give back to the communities that support them. In addition to their newest releases, Alternative rock band Motion City Soundtrack is doing exactly that.
The band recently partnered with Legal Speed coffee roasters. This collaboration inspired by a limited quantity of single origin beans, with all proceeds going to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. This legal firm fights for racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education. Their mission aims to expand democracy, equality, and justice through their work.
Along with the partnership, the band has released a new merch line, which includes an exclusive 7" to raise money for Save the Stages, as well as their tour crew. A project started by the National Independent Venue Association, Save the Stages aims to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of live music venues and the jobs surrounding them. This crucial mission protects an entire industry threatened by the pandemic. Motion City Soundtrack's support of this group and their mission shows their dedication to the community that helped them grow their own popularity, and their desire to help it continue to thrive.
While supporting missions they believe in, the band has still not stopped creating when it comes to their music either. Fans that were distraught over the band's break up can rejoice knowing they are not only performing together, but are writing new material as well. They recently released their latest single, "Crooked Ways." The song, produced alongside Mark Hoppus, was originally recorded a decade ago. It was finally released at the end of July, and has gained some major traction since (even reaching the desk of Twilight series author, Stephanie Meyer).
